During the off-season, New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson was the subject of all kinds of comments, mockery and even admiration after it became known that his girlfriend accused him of being in a relationship with one of his mother’s female friends.
This provoked all kinds of memes on social media, and every chance it gets, someone brings it into the conversation. One of them was former Pats and Bucs tight end Rob Gronkowski, who obviously kept up with the famous ‘gossip’.
Gronk trolls Wilson on TV
Gronkowski appeared on Fox NFL Kickoff Sunday morning in a segment titled “Glass Half-Full or Half-Empty,” in which he generated laughs from his colleagues by referencing the Wilson affair, though without mentioning the Jets QB by name.
“I’ll go half-full, as long as they can have their QB’s head in the playbook, instead of it being in parent-teacher conferences,” Gronkowski joked.
Fans immediately reacted in social media
After Gronk’s comment, which was very brief, fans began posting on social media how amused they were by the reference to Wilson, 23. “Didn’t Gronk just say that about Zach Wilson on live TV!” exclaimed one user, while another posted, “We need more of Gronk on TV.“
As for Wilson, he became more famous for the shout out of his ex-girlfriend, Abbey Gile, than for what he does on the field, although he had a solid game today, Sunday, with 18 completions for 25 sent, 154 yards and 1 TD in the Jets’ upset of the day after hosting the heavily favored Buffalo Bills, who they handed their second loss of the season.
In July, after the gossip exploded that his ex-girlfriend accused him of, Wilson mocked the affair and posted:
“Took the boys to @gozzerranchclub in Idaho before camp! Bad cell service… what am I missing?”. Wilson is currently dating New Jersey influencer Nicolette Dellanno.
